June 1991 Eruption

   The 1991 eruption caused a lot of damage in the Philippines on the island of Luzon. The eruption was on June 15, 1991. Before the eruption in June there were two smaller eruptions on April 2. After this eruption 5,000 evacuated from that area.  Also on June 9 25,000 evacuated from that area. The eruption on June 15 started at 1:42 p.m. local time. This massive eruption lasted nine hours long because of the eruption there were many earthquakes that followed. During the eruption there were millions and millions of tons sulfur dioxide that were released into the atmosphere, which affected the temperature through out the world.There was also a lot of ash that fell over Luzon. The eruption also destroyed many homes nearby. About 800 people died from the eruption and 100,000 were homeless. This eruption was the 2nd largest eruption of the 20th century.
